"The Sangbad" dated 29 March, 06: An Editorial
On Last Saturday- 25th March, 06 some assailants attacked, assaulted a Hindu minority family in a village- Hasandandi, P.S. Chandanaish, District – Chittagong (South) The perpetrators also damaged the houses of the minority family and looted valuables, violated the women and children. It is reported by Ahmed Nabi- a Member of local government U.P. of the area because the Hindu minorities did not respond to arbitration between rival minority communities, the local Muslim communities belonging to four party alliance of present government with ill motive attacked this Hindu minority family and looted valuables including a Baby Taxi. Nobody came forward for the safety of this minority family and also nobody tells anything due to further repression. Police however could recover a looted Baby Taxi. Why the police did not take any initiative to protect this family? This Hindu family would have been saved if the police could take timely initiative from the clutches of such hooliganism.
The Government always says – "Minorities are living here in Bangladesh with peace and tranquility and there is no problem of any communalism, discrimination etc." The government always speaks like that in the country and outside the country in the similar tone. The Government always beat broken drums but they did not take initiative to protect the rights of minorities. And this heinous incident of attack on Hindu family on 25th of March, 06 at Hasandandi Area at Chittagong is the best example for insecure Minorities of Bangladesh. So many instances of such news are being published in the national dailies; the government did not take steps to reduce this sort of atrocities against minorities. Is it the responsibility of the government only to beat broken drums in the name of protection of minorities or whether they would be sincere to protect the rights of minorities with clean heart? According to them the law and order situation of the country has been improved, they have eliminated terrorism introducing RAB in the country. Is it really example of elimination of terrorism introducing these forces? Government claimed that they have established peace and tranquility introducing RAB killing innocent people. Is it possible to eliminate terrorism killing people in cross fire? Is there any value of utopian expression of government? Or it is really example of elimination of terrorism in this way.
We have noticed big talk of government about four years. It is not at all true as the government claimed. The government is not acting as per their own commitment. The claim of success of the government has been proved to be futile. Only big talk, lecture and claiming to be a responsible government are nothing but deception. If the government is really sincere the incident like Hasandandi village against minorities would have not taken place and no perpetrators could dare to attack on minorities. We demand the atrocities against the minorities should be stopped by the government, only big talk and lecture will not do any good for the minorities and only the government will have to prove their sincerity by doing so.
